Green Onions

How to keep green onions fresh

This isn’t as much a recipe as it is a life hack.

I liked using fresh green onions, but never had them when I needed them. Or, I had them but didn’t need them so they turned slimy in the vegetable drawer.

With this, problem solved!

*They last longer if you plant in soil, but it’s possible to just keep them in the water.

Buy green onions at the store and cut off the green tops. Use in a recipe.

Place bottoms in a glass of water and place somewhere they will get some natural light. Refill water as needed.

The next day you’ll notice they’ve begun to grow!

If you have sunny weather, days 2-3 the green shoots will grow very long.

After the third day, you should notice that the roots have also grown.

Fill a plant container with soil. Plant onions and place near a window. Blinds are closed only for taking a picture.

For recipes, choose what you need, cutting at the bottom of the individual sprout. I lay my scissors against the new shoot, so as not to cut it accidentally.

Ready to chop and add to recipes.

I cut the onions many times before they lose their gusto and need to plant more.
